Rock Port Area Guide
Rockport is a full service city, full of fun things to do and see! Our population may be small (just over 7,000) but we offer great times and recreation, parks, boating and pavilions! Located just 30 miles northeast of Corpus Christi on Texas Highway 35, we’re also the County Seat of Aransas County. Incorporated by a Special Act of Legislature in 1871, that’s the year we were granted our charter. We’re surrounded on three sides by Aransas, Copano and Port Bays, with plenty of outdoor activities like fishing and boating for residents and visitors alike to enjoy!
Rockport has become a charming little fishing village, a favorite hideaway of everyone from all walks of life, enjoying the good life. Visitors can see the Texas maritime Museum, the historic Fulton Mansion and wildlife aficionados can visit the Connie Hagar Wildlife Sanctuary as well as the Wetlands Ponds.
With so much to see and do and residents who welcome visitors like you’re family, the only thing missing from Rockport is you!

History
Founded in 1867, Rockport is the county seat of Aransas County, located on the western side of the Gulf of Mexico, but is separated by barrier islands which form the intracostal canal. The entire county is more than 326 acres, however, much of it is under water. George Fulton completed his now historic mansion in 1877 (listed as a historical landmark) in the community known as Fulton, next to Rockport. Today they’re well known as Rockport-Fulton since the two separate communities are in the same area.
